Six Months, More School.

My last post was back in March, and I was talking about my kids and school and how I have changed my expectations.

It is now the end of August and the kids are starting up school again after summer vacation.

I think just I'll stick to the school theme from my last post.

My youngest will be finishing elementary school this year. We have been driving her to a charter school 13 miles away for the last 2 years. Her old school is a 5 minute walk from my house. It has been one of the smartest things we have done as parents.

At her old school, her state tests had her at basic and below basic in arithmetic and English. Two years later test results are now highly proficient and advanced.

I wish we had the same option for my son. He struggles and we don't know what to do sometimes.

This will be his first year in high school and he is going to be trying out for the football team. Hopefully he really likes it and he will be motivated enough to keep his grades up. I know high school sports kept me out of a lot of trouble and my grades in line.

The Shiny Blue Bottle

My 9-year-old daughter gave me a bottle for my birthday. She told me the shiny blue bottle was filled with her love. I'm not sure I'll ever get a better gift.
